Transport Team Leader

Responsible for the day-to-day running of the transport function within the distribution operation, delivering efficiencies to support the team in achieving business objectives and providing a best-in-class service to customers and key stakeholders. Work collaboratively within the distribution management team, partner with key stakeholders, deliver end-to-end solutions, and demonstrate company values.

RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Manage compliance with all relevant transport legislation, including driver hours and working time directives.
2. Make necessary shift changes to route and resource planning within the transport function to deliver the plan.
3. Allocate vehicles and trailers based on capacity to meet scheduled volumes.
4. Carry out pre- and post-driver debriefs, including issuing paperwork, uplifts, and returns.
5. Maintain clear and concise customer communication as agreed.
6. Control and monitor driver returns, including stock, cages, crates, totes, and belts.
7. Assign daily duties to loaders and marshallers, including scanning cages onto vehicles.
8. Monitor and control the fleet defect process.
9. Coordinate planning for vehicle service, maintenance, and cleaning schedules.
10. Manage processes for fuel issuance and reordering.
11. Plan and execute procedures related to temperature-controlled deliveries.
12. Ensure compliance with all aspects of Health & Safety legislation.

SKILLS & QUALITIES

• Experience in distribution planning and end-to-end logistics.
• Knowledge and experience of planning and scheduling systems.
• Strong IT skills, with good working knowledge of Word and Excel.
• Good numerical skills.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Attention to detail.
• Good organization and planning skills.
