About Appleby Westward
Appleby Westward is the SPAR Wholesaler and Retailer covering the West of England. Our Retail Distribution Centre and Support Offices are based in Saltash, Cornwall, where we employ around 200 colleagues who support our wholesale distribution operations for both our independent retail estate and company-owned retail stores. Across our company-owned retail stores, we have around 1,900 colleagues. Our SPAR retail stores are the leading convenience brand, operating in communities from Chichester in the east, to Land's End in the west, and to Bristol in the north and the Isle of Wight in the south. In addition to offering convenience goods, groceries, chilled foods, and food-to-go, we also provide essential local services at selected locations, including Post Office services, lottery, and online collection and delivery services. About South Cornwall
This role will be based within a store in the Falmouth area; however, there is flexibility to commute within around 30 minutes. There is a great network of company-owned stores in South Cornwall with strong support connections. Whether you’re grabbing a freshly baked pastry from the in-store bakery, picking up groceries for your evening meal, or selecting a fine bottle of wine from the off-licence, SPAR has you covered. The friendly team and well-stocked shelves make every visit a pleasant experience. We are now looking to recruit a Store Manager.
The Store Manager Role
The ideal candidate will have store management experience in the retail industry. They should demonstrate strong people management and leadership skills and have experience delivering excellent customer service and performance results through a motivated team. A good level of commercial awareness, along with knowledge and experience of health and safety procedures, is essential, as is experience working in a fast-paced, customer-focused environment, including Post Office and food-to-go. The role requires excellent communication skills, with the ability to build trusted relationships. Strong organisational skills and the ability to prioritise effectively are also important. The candidate must be a Personal Licence Holder or be able to obtain and hold a licence within six weeks of appointment. The successful candidate will need to complete Post Office security checks as part of the joining process.
