Silver Bridge School is an independent special school for pupils aged 6 – 19, with two sites based near Taunton. As our school continues to grow (with an additional site from September 2026) and flourish we are introducing new roles. This is an exciting opportunity to join us as a Physical Education Practitioner.

At Silver Bridge School we adopt a creative, individualised approach for students who have barriers to learning associated with social, emotional, mental health and ASC needs. Our curriculum approach, Enterprise Learning, allows our students to rebuild confidence in their abilities, feel safe and supported, and gain skills and knowledge that will allow them to thrive in the modern world.

Our practitioners work with our students as industry professionals, who deliver creative and active learning experiences to support the development of specialist skills and qualifications. As the Practitioner for PE you will work with colleagues to plan and deliver projects that meet student’s needs, identifying, developing, and facilitating opportunities through the use of local and regional facilities, including sports centres, swimming pools, outdoor education environments, specialist activity providers, and community-based resources.

You will also be responsible for researching, sourcing, and maintaining appropriate equipment, adaptive resources, and sensory supports that enable all students to participate successfully and safely. The Physical Education Practitioner will continually evaluate the impact of the programme, adapting activities and environments to ensure that students can access appropriate levels of challenge and achievement.

They will promote positive attitudes towards physical activity, healthy lifestyles, and lifelong participation in movement, while creating opportunities for students to develop communication, teamwork, self-regulation, resilience, and independence through physical experiences. The role requires creativity, flexibility, and a commitment to ensuring that every student can achieve success and make meaningful progress towards their individual EHCP outcomes.

This is a great opportunity for a person who is passionate about sports, physical exercise and wellbeing to work alongside our students to deliver meaningful projects that will enrich and sustain the school environment. You must be able to build effective and supportive relationships with our students, which encourage their engagement and development of self confidence and enjoyment.

Our practitioners must be able to lead creative sessions with our students that encourage a high level of active participation and foster a co-learning ethos. We also understand the importance of building meaningful relationships with students and families to nurture growth and development of relational milestones such as, building trust and sharing enjoyment. Care and making connections are at the heart of our ethos and we work hard to ensure that all staff feel cared for too.

Applicants for Practitioner posts must hold relevant qualifications in their area of expertise (equivalent to level 3 - 5). Being a qualified teacher is not a requirement, however experience of teaching or working within a relevant setting would be an advantage. Candidates must have experience within their industry and have a desire to teach. The successful applicant will be able to demonstrate vocational experience as well as having excellent administrative and organisational abilities in order to perform the role successfully.

Candidates will be supported with a role specific induction and there are excellent opportunities for personal development, including support to gain a recognised teaching qualification. The well-being of our staff is an important priority; therefore we provide opportunities to ensure we value their hard work and dedication and promote a healthy work-life balance.

We are constantly reviewing our practices to ensure that our staff can focus on what matters: providing a rich environment in which children and young adults can learn and thrive. We recognise that our schools all serve their own communities and are unique, but we also insist that our schools follow Spaghetti Bridge ways of working which ensure that there are high expectations and equality of opportunity for all our pupils.
