Hours: 4.5 hours per week (Fridays @ 4-8.30 p.m.)

Salary: £15.91 per hour

Annual leave: 32 days pro-rata (five days); some annual leave must be reserved to cover
closures of service over Christmas/New Year and Easter

The Role

Our Youth Club has been running for more than seven years, providing a much-needed safe space in the community for young people to hang out with friends and enjoy fun activities.

The Club runs on Fridays from 4:30-6 p.m. (ages eight to 11) and 6:30-8 p.m. (ages 12 to 17).

We pride ourselves on creating an inclusive environment for all young people, helping them alleviate stress from daily life and enjoy time with peers in a non-competitive setting.

We are recruiting a Youth Worker who will join an existing team of two Youth Workers.

Together, they will plan, organise, and deliver a programme of interesting, fun activities in consultation with the young people accessing the club, ensuring participants are at the centre of their own planning.

Key tasks in the job:

• Consult with young people to determine suitable activities matching their needs and interests
• Plan, implement, deliver programme of creative activities within The Hub, with occasional activities taking place off-site
• Carry out risk assessments
• Liaise with staff team and volunteers at beginning of each session to ensure planned content relates directly to service aims and objectives
• Liaise with Project Manager before each session regarding local issues/safety or other concerns
• Purchase/order any materials, equipment, or food required for sessions
• Administration tasks, including keeping accurate register of all attendees, processing referral forms, gathering data from sessions to inform funder reporting
• Participate in team debriefs after each session to identify outcomes, highlight any issues that arose, any new potential areas of work

What you’ll bring:

• Minimum one (1) year experience in a Youth Work role
• Sound understanding of needs and challenges faced by young people and their families, in particular those who are living in areas of deprivation
• Experience working with wide range of young people, including those from BME communities, those who have additional support needs, those who have faced challenging life circumstances
• Fully conversant with GIRFEC and Child Protection/Safeguarding procedures
• Genuine enthusiasm for all elements of youth work and desire to support young people to flourish

Note: This role is part-year, with a seven-week break during the school summer holidays, when the club does not run.
