Reports To: Manufacturing Team Leader
Key Purpose of Job: Machining of Composite and Metallic structures and components for spacecraft systems and sub-systems.
Key Tasks:
- Working within the Composites Manufacturing team and liaising closely with the Design Office to deliver high quality components to tight deadlines for flight assembly and integration.
- Manufacturing high precision Composite (Carbon and Metallic) components using 3 and 5-axis CNC Milling Machine.
- CNC off-line programming using Autodesk Power Mill and Feature Cam CAD/CAM software tools.
- Liaising with Project Engineers and other Engineering Teams to ensure deadlines and specifications are achieved.
- Attending engineering Peer Reviews to ensure design for manufacture methodology is observed.
- Attending regular team meetings.
- Performing Manual Machining operations when required.
- Other activities as delegated by Manufacturing Team Leader.
PERSON SPECIFICATION:
Qualifications:
- City & Guilds Mechanical Engineering or having undertaken a recognised Apprenticeship with relevant certificates.
- Good educational background.
Experience:
- Ideally from a machining or similar background.
- Experience of machining components in a High Precision, High Value, and Low Volume environment, ideally Aerospace.
- CNC Off-Line Programming using Solid Works, Autodesk Power Mill and Feature Cam CAD/CAM software tools preferred, but not essential, as training will be provided.
Knowledge & Skills:
- Flexible and enthusiastic with a can-do approach.
- Problem solver.
- Capable of working from Engineering Drawings and Solid Works models to High Standards and Close Tolerances; attention to detail is essential.
- Good communication skills working within a small team.
