We are delighted to seek applications for Consultant Geriatricians to work within our Medicine for Older People Team. This role is based at Salisbury NHS Foundation Trust (SFT) and includes a generous financial Welcome Payment (£22,000) and relocation expenses, subject to terms and conditions.
These posts help deliver an integrated approach to managing frail and complex patients within Salisbury and the surrounding rural area, with services including the new Acute Frailty Unit (AFU), SDEC, Hospital@Home, and integrated Elderly Care wards. The successful candidates will work within and lead these services and develop additional offerings.
The role is suitable for substantive or fixed-term appointments. It will be 10 Programme Activity (PAs) per week, Monday to Friday, with a requirement to join the general medicine on-call. Flexible working requests will be considered. Interviews are scheduled to be conducted face to face on Monday 9 March 2026.
Main duties include supporting applicants in developing their specialty interests to enhance current service provision. The post involves working across AFU/SDEC, Elderly Medicine wards, surgical liaison, Hospital@Home, and frailty services to provide an integrated approach to acute and non-acute Geriatric Medicine across community and hospital care. Post holders will have opportunities to work and develop across these areas, contributing to improving services for elderly frail patients.

Job responsibilities include participating in the acute medical on-call rota at SFT on a 1:16 basis, and participating in acute care ward rounds, frailty same-day emergency care, rapid access clinics, specialist clinics (including Parkinson's disease and falls) and MDT meetings. The post is advertised as full-time (10 PAs) but flexible working would be welcomed. A relocation package of up to £8,000 and a welcome payment of £22,000 are available (terms and conditions apply). A repayment clause applies to both payments if the candidate leaves the Trust within three years; details will be included in the offer and contract of employment. Payments for the £22,000 welcome payment will be made in two installments: one on commencement of employment and a second after 12 months. The relocation payment is paid after commencement and is subject to terms and conditions. This role is open to full-time or part-time permanent appointments.
Person Specification:
- GMC Essential: GMC registration; possession, or within 6 months of possession, of a CCT.
- Experience/Clinical Skills Essential: Wide experience and high competence in General Adult Medicine, Geriatric Medicine and Stroke Medicine; leadership skills; ability to work in teams; knowledge and application of evidence-based practice.
- Management Experience Essential: Effective team member with multidisciplinary collaboration; ability to motivate and develop staff; commitment to clinical governance and learning from errors.
- Communications Skills Essential: Clarity in written and spoken communication.
