Role Overview

To lead the planning and trading of the department, ensuring stock levels are optimised in line with department KPIs to deliver sales, customer & stock targets for the category. Support Head of Category to strategically shape plans, collaborating with the Senior Buyer to drive the best outcome for the division.

Role Overview And Responsibilities

  • Weekly management of OTB to ensure intake flow into the business is in line with forecast requirement to drive customer acquisition & sales whilst minimising markdown
  • In charge of the weekly order management process, reviewing stock requirements for the department for both replenishment of core and newness
  • Develop and nurture strong working relationship with Brands to maximise sales opportunities. Supporting the buyer with negotiation of RTVs, promo & markdown agreements etc
  • Accountable for maintaining brand and department availability targets in line with business goals
  • Lead weekly & monthly trade reporting, summarising performance vs KPIs to the commercial team and the wider business, relating to customer, sales, AOV, profit & discount. Proactively make trading recommendations to Head of Category to maximise opportunity for the department
  • Drive analysis of the category with a strategic lens, continual assessment of over/under performance and the impact on stock levels, taking action to mitigate risk and maximise opportunity. Key contact to wider business on category specific analysis
  • Lead category merchandising team, whilst collaborating cross functionally with Buying, Inventory & external partners
  • Manage the development of your team members to ensure they thrive in role & whilst being clear on their part in achieving both category & company objectives
  • Leading best practice across the merchandising and wider category team
  • Involvement in wider merchandising projects relating to category – this is key as we grow & scale the business
  • Partner with other departments e.g. events & marketing to deliver on wider customer initiatives, category & wider business KPIs are met
  • Deputise for Merchandising Manager/Category Director where appropriate & necessary

Knowledge & Experience

  • Would suit an Established or Senior Merchandiser
  • Experience of managing brands; beauty experience desirable but not essential
  • Proven track record in a fast-paced retail business
  • Advanced Excel skills & ability to present data in a digestible way to wider business
  • Experience managing a team, including JM, AM & MAA levels
