What you’ll be doing

As Area Manager you will deliver the Main Plant Design programme for the Central region, managing Main Plant Engineering deliverables worth £200m to over £500m annually, and lead a team of professional engineers.

Responsibilities

  • Overall responsibility for ensuring Main Plant Engineering deliverables are delivered on time and in line with SPT Standards and Policies.
  • Lead and manage a group of professional engineers to deliver cost‑effective end‑to‑end design solutions and ensure regulatory and financial allowances.
  • Liaise with other team leaders to coordinate and collaborate across regions and functions to deliver satisfactory change outcomes.
  • Ensure all HSEQ policies are applied and compliance with all Engineering policies, standards and procedures.
  • Support standardised design solutions to drive efficiency and design consistency across the SPT business.
  • People‑lead a group of professional engineers, ensuring adequate training, coaching and mentoring to advance knowledge, skills and experience.
  • Deliver performance management for a team of professional engineers.

What you’ll bring

  • A degree in Electrical or another appropriate Engineering discipline.
  • Chartered Engineer status (or working towards).
  • Technical oversight and management skills.
  • Experience designing Main Plant engineering for large electrical infrastructure projects.
  • People and communication skills to form effective working relationships with key stakeholders.
  • Ability to implement and promote CDM and Health & Safety best practice in a design environment.
  • Experience implementing new technologies and engineering solutions to achieve cost and carbon reductions.
  • Broad thinking skills and understanding of plant and equipment deployed for transmission networks.
  • Experience using BIM for designing Transmission substations.
