As a Network Design Engineer, you will play a key role in the planning and design of the distribution network, ensuring network security, reliability and long-term asset performance. You will undertake network analysis, develop solutions for customer connections and reinforcement projects, and help deliver safe, efficient and cost-effective designs that support both customer and business objectives.

  • Lead the assessment and delivery of customer connection requests, ensuring compliance with regulatory and licence requirements.
  • Produce and review network designs and quotations for new connections, reinforcements and network alterations.
  • Carry out network analysis and modelling to identify optimal technical solutions.
  • Manage third-party Point of Connection and design approval activities across the licence areas.
  • Apply sound engineering principles to enhance network performance, safety and asset longevity.
  • Identify and implement innovative technical, procedural and commercial solutions.
  • Build strong relationships with customers, stakeholders and delivery partners.
  • Promote a strong safety culture and ensure safe-by-design principles are embedded throughout all activities.
  • Support and mentor less experienced engineers, graduates and trainees.

What you'll bring

  • Strong knowledge of distribution network design standards up to 33kV.
  • Experience using network analysis and modelling tools.
  • Understanding of the regulatory framework and customer connection processes.
  • Ability to develop practical engineering solutions to complex challenges.
  • Commercial awareness and an understanding of balancing customer requirements with network and business needs.
  • Excellent stakeholder management, communication and presentation skills.
  • Ability to manage competing priorities and make sound technical and financial decisions.
  • Experience operating within a utility, power or infrastructure environment.

Minimum Criteria

  • Engineering qualification or equivalent industry experience.
  • Proven experience in a network design role.
  • Knowledge of network construction and operational practices.
  • Strong IT and system skills.
  • Full UK driving licence preferred.
