The Carbon research team is part of the Horizons research group within S&P Global Energy. We focus on compliance and voluntary carbon markets, carbon management, and emissions insight and modeling. Our work expands S&P Global’s emissions capabilities and delivers cross‑cutting carbon research across the organization.

Responsibilities and Impact

  • The team leads S&P Global Energy’s emissions estimation, analytics, insight, carbon markets, and technology removal analysis.
  • This hybrid role combines emissions quantification with regulatory and policy analysis.
  • Provide thought leadership and advance best practices on carbon accounting.
  • Analyze technical aspects of carbon accounting methodologies, standards, policies, and regulations.
  • Build emission estimation and quantification capabilities across the business.
  • Develop relationships with internal and external stakeholders to communicate findings and collaborate on key initiatives.
  • Produce thought‑leadership pieces through written reports and presentations to internal and external audiences.

Compensation / Benefits Information (US Candidates Only)

Base salary range: $100,000 to $130,000 (dependent on location, experience, skills, licenses). Eligible for an annual incentive plan. Additional S&P Global benefits available – see the benefit portal for details.

What We’re Looking For

  • Dynamic, adaptable collaborator capable of working in matrix positions.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills with excellent interpersonal abilities.
  • Deep understanding of GHG estimation, life‑cycle accounting, emissions reporting, or carbon markets/policy.
  • Background in carbon market policy and regulatory analysis.
  • Ability to work independently with limited oversight.
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, environmental science, economics, or finance with relevant industry experience; a graduate degree is a plus.
