This team is in constant dialogue with the industry to understand market dynamics and create market outlooks for key petrochemicals. The team also connects with groups across S&P Global to understand linkages across the industry, from upstream energy cost impacts to policy and sustainability influences as well as macroeconomic drivers impacting demand. We interact with all major stakeholders including industry associations, producers, consumers, traders, transportation providers and financial institutions engaging with individuals up to and including board level executives.

The Chemical Economics Handbook (CEH) team delivers comprehensive market intelligence on commodity and specialty chemicals. The team produces structured reports that integrate asset-level data, supply and demand balances, trade flows, and price analysis to provide a consistent and forward-looking view of industry fundamentals. CEH outputs are used by clients across the value chain - producers, consumers, and investors - to support strategic planning, investment decisions, benchmarking, and market monitoring.

The Impact: This role will support the regional and global Methanol & Derivatives team in generating chemical market intelligence. There is a short and long-term cadence of market coverage and activities which will include:

  • Analysis of chemical value chain market trends
  • Collating industry statistics and internal data to provide market insights
  • Regular update of supply/demand balances, trade flows, operating schedules and price forecasts
  • Research into emerging markets, plants and technologies
  • Modelling and supporting the transformation of data

This role will also support the CEH commodity team, managing the timely, end-to-end delivery of comprehensive industry reports. The role involves developing in-depth chemical market reports for the Chemical Economics Handbook (CEH) and related services, combining rigorous research with structured analytical frameworks. The analyst is responsible for building independent market assessments based on both primary and secondary research, while actively liaising with internal experts to ensure robust and well-informed conclusions. Key responsibilities include analyzing supply-demand balances, evaluating market dynamics and industry trends, and assessing macroeconomic and sector-specific drivers to produce forward-looking, insight-driven assessments.

What's in it for you: This person will join a global, dynamic and internationally-orientated research team of established individuals with varied industrial experience. The role provides the opportunity to work alongside other skilled analysts, helping to form a consistent and comprehensive view of the global chemical markets. Additionally, they will have the opportunity to improve their analytical skills and knowledge by interacting with other commodities teams, and groups within the wider S&P Global organization.

The successful candidate joins at a time of unprecedented change within the industry, with geopolitics, climate policies and volatile energy markets gaining ever-increasing importance in reporting and decision-making. The role provides opportunity to be at the forefront of this fast-changing landscape and help influence the way the industry navigates through these macro trends. This role comes at a time when the team is looking to leverage S&P Global's wider expertise and experience in emerging technologies such as Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning. The right candidate will be able to gain exposure to this, and influence the role that these technologies play in revolutionising the ways that we gather and deliver market intelligence.

  • Write industry reports linked to the industry value chain covered
  • Author Chemical Economics Handbook reports by leveraging own market knowledge and collaborating with internal subject-matter experts to translate the latest insights into clear, well-structured, publication-ready research that meets high editorial standards
