Role: Oil Markets Associate/Price Reporter for EMEA Light Ends Markets. Responsible for day-to-day price reporting on Light Ends (naphtha, LPG and gasoline) markets in Europe. The role involves collecting primary market information, publishing price updates, writing commentary and analysis, and engaging with market sources following Platts methodology.

Responsibilities

  • Assess markets: survey market participants, publish price updates, run the assessment window, demonstrate understanding of Platts' methodology, use mathematics and spreadsheets rigorously, and keep methodology up to date.
  • Write high-quality market commentaries: file comments as news stories before midday if markets are volatile; avoid repetitive structures; monitor inter-product and inter-region spreads; ensure editorial standards are met.
  • Report news and analysis: deliver timely stories on supply and demand developments, government data, regulatory changes, trader movements, price trends, and other relevant topics; balance standard news with enterprise reporting; file a reasonable quantity of stories before lunchtime; collaborate with the news desk and editors.
  • Engage with the industry: maintain and expand market-source networks; keep source lists up to date; share meeting summaries with managers; communicate regularly with sources and meet them for lunch about once a week; handle complaints per Editorial Standard for complaints management.

Other Accountabilities

  • Meet deadlines: in the office by 9:30am London time; publish assessments by 6:30pm; publish commentaries by 7:00pm.
  • Meet Platts’ editorial standards: manage methodology initiatives through MTT; follow house reporting style; correct less than 0.25% of assessments; handle enquiries and complaints effectively.

  • Experience of relevant reporting or analytical experience (new graduates considered with appropriate training).
  • Strong mathematical skills.
  • Strong writing skills.
  • Ability to perform well with tight deadlines.
