Our client is a wholesale business that is rapidly growing and has ambitions over the next few years to acquire and grow significantly. With this, they are seeking driven individuals that want to help grow the business and in turn will grow with it!

This fantastic role is based in the offices on the outskirts of Birmingham, supporting the commercial buying team whilst reporting into the Senior Trading Controller and Head of Trading. We are ideally seeking a Buyer that understands and has experience buying Alcohol (Beers, Wines, Ciders, and Spirits).

What does the role involve?

  • Successfully manage the assigned supplier base, negotiating optimum supplier terms and pricing.
  • Manage supplier relationships including quality and supply issues, improving supplier performance and building successful supply chain partnerships.
  • Maintain an effective understanding of the wholesale market and keep up to date with changing trends to make informed buying decisions.
  • Conduct supplier meetings to discuss supplier performance, as well as drive best value for the company through local agreements with suppliers.
  • Manage excess and short-dated stock effectively to minimise the adverse impact on the business.
  • Work closely with sales to ensure new products are sourced in a timely fashion to agreed quantities.

What qualities will you need to be successful?

  • Extensive knowledge of buying within an FMCG environment – ideally in Alcohol.
  • Strong commercial skills with a proven track record of successful supplier negotiations.
  • Excellent communication skills with experience discussing finances, budgets, and costs.
  • Effective time management and organisational skills with the ability to work to strict deadlines and under pressure.
  • Strong IT skills with a working knowledge of Microsoft Office and strong Excel skills.
  • Driven to deliver at pace with the passion to thrive on challenges and contribute to the continued growth of the company.
  • Able to commute through the West Midlands area as required for meetings with clients and in different depots.
