Job Description
Non Executive Director - Southway Housing Trust
Location: Greater Manchester
Remuneration: £5,000 per annum
Application Deadline: 5th September
Commitment: Approx. 2 days per month, plus 2 annual Away Days
Southway Housing Trust is a community-focused housing association with over 6,700 homes across South Manchester and parts of Greater Manchester and Cheshire. Since 2007, we have been working to deliver excellent customer service and quality homes where communities thrive. As we look to the future, we are guided by an ambitious new Corporate Plan launched in April 2025, which sets our course for sustainable growth, community investment and service improvement through to 2030.
We are now seeking to appoint a new Board Member to join our Parent Board and support the delivery of our strategic objectives. This is a pivotal time for Southway as we respond to an evolving regulatory landscape, implement a refreshed brand identity, and work to deliver against stretching goals – including growing our stock by almost 50% to 10,000 homes and investing £5 million into our communities.
About the Role
As a Board Member, you will play a vital governance role in shaping the future of Southway. You will support strategic decision-making, provide scrutiny and challenge to ensure effective delivery, and uphold the organisation’s core values – Respect, Equity, Ambition, Compassion, and Honesty.
This role also includes membership of the People & Places Committee, focused on Southway’s core affordable landlord services. It is responsible for setting policies, scrutinising performance, and ensuring that the Southway understands and responds to the impact of its services on local communities.
Who We’re Looking For
We welcome applications from individuals with a wide range of skills and backgrounds. However, we are particularly keen to hear from candidates with senior-level experience in Housing Management and Landlord Services, as this will directly support our regulatory, operational and service improvement priorities.
You will need to demonstrate:
- Demonstrable experience within housing management or community services within the social housing sector
- Appreciation of governance and strategic oversight in a regulated environment
- A commitment to diversity, inclusion and ethical leadership
- A collaborative approach, with the ability to engage constructively with customers, the executive team, and fellow Board members
- An inquisitive mindset and the confidence to provide scrutiny and challenge
If you are passionate about delivering social impact, and can bring experience that contributes to Southway’s continued success, we would be delighted to hear from you.
