About the Role

This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced AMHP to manage the Southwark day‑time AMHP Service and lead on related issues across the department. You will be responsible for providing a comprehensive and effective Approved Mental Health Professional (AMHP) service in line with current legislation, Council policy and best practice.

Key Responsibilities Include

  • Overall management and coordination of the day‑time AMHP service, including the AMHP rota.
  • Line management and supervision of an Advanced Practitioner, two full‑time AMHPs and a Business Support Officer.
  • Providing professional leadership, guidance and support on complex assessments.
  • Supporting and supervising AMHPs across the borough, including coordinating and leading the AMHP forum.
  • Developing and maintaining effective working relationships with key partners including the Mental Health Trust, Police and other stakeholders.

About You

You will be an experienced and confident AMHP with strong leadership skills and a sound knowledge of relevant mental health legislation. You will thrive in a busy environment and be able to manage competing priorities effectively.

  • In‑depth knowledge of the Mental Health Act and associated legislation.
  • Proven experience of supervising and managing staff.

The Southwark Day‑Time AMHP Service is a skilled and supportive team committed to delivering responsive, person‑centred mental health services. We value collaboration, reflective practice and continuous learning.

  • Professional Social Work or other relevant professional qualification and registration with relevant body – Social Work England.
  • Approved Mental Health Professional.
  • Hours of work, 36 hours per week Monday - Friday.
