Temporary Leaf Clearance Operative (Agency Staff)

About the Role
We are looking for reliable and hardworking Leaf Clearance Operatives to join the Street Cleaning team in Southwark during the autumn leaf-fall season.
You will work as part of a dustcart gang, helping to keep roads, pavements, parks and public spaces clean and safe by collecting fallen leaves and other debris. This is a physically demanding, outdoor role requiring a hands‑on approach, good teamwork and a commitment to maintaining high standards of cleanliness.
Key Responsibilities
- Sweep and collect fallen leaves from roads, pavements, gutters and public spaces.
- Load collected leaves, green waste and debris onto the dustcart.
- Work as part of a street cleaning team to complete assigned routes and tasks.
- Use brushes, shovels and other hand tools safely and effectively.
- Assist with general street cleansing and waste removal duties when required.
- Follow health and safety procedures and wear the appropriate personal protective equipment.
- Report hazards, spillages or other issues to the supervisor.
- Maintain a professional and courteous approach when dealing with members of the public.
Essential Requirements
- Ability to undertake physically demanding work, including regular walking, bending and lifting.
- Willingness to work outdoors in all weather conditions.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team and follow instructions.
- Reliable, punctual and committed to completing assigned duties.
- Good awareness of health and safety practices.
- Must have their own safety boots and high-visibility clothing (hi-vis).
- Availability to commit to the six‑week assignment.
Desirable Experience
- Previous experience in street cleansing, refuse collection, grounds maintenance or environmental services.
- Experience working within a local authority or council environment.
Working Hours and Conditions
- 36 hours per week.
- Working patterns will be confirmed by the service.
- Some flexibility may be required to meet operational requirements and weather conditions.
- The role involves extended periods outdoors and regular physical activity.
