Southwark Council is strengthening how it communicates with staff and residents to support the delivery of its priorities and improve outcomes for communities. The Communications team, within Strategy and Communities, leads the council’s approach to communications, campaigns, media relations and digital content. The team works across the organisation to ensure that council priorities are communicated clearly, residents can access information about services and initiatives, and communications activity supports meaningful engagement and impact.

We are seeking a Head of Internal Communications to lead the council’s internal communications strategy and ensure staff across the organisation are informed, engaged and connected to the council’s priorities.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Lead the council’s internal communications strategy and approach.
  • Develop clear and effective communications that support organisational priorities and major programmes of change.
  • Work closely with senior leaders to ensure staff receive timely and accurate information.
  • Oversee internal communication channels and ensure they are used effectively.
  • Support organisational engagement and staff understanding of key initiatives.
  • Coordinate communications around corporate announcements and major organisational developments.
