Lighting Engineer

As Lighting Engineer, you’ll support the delivery of innovative lighting designs and asset management solutions across the borough. Working alongside the Principal Lighting Engineer, you’ll bring your technical knowledge and project management skills to lead the planning, execution, and maintenance of lighting schemes for streets, parks, estates and more.

Deliver lighting schemes for public realm infrastructure—from concept to completion. Oversee contractors and term maintenance contracts to ensure work meets Southwark’s high standards. Provide expert technical advice to internal teams, developers and community partners. Develop and maintain lighting strategies, policies, and creative design plans in line with best practice and sustainability goals. Monitor project and service budgets in excess of £2m, ensuring efficiency and cost-effectiveness. Produce official contract documentation including specifications, tender reports and bills of quantities.

We’re looking for someone who combines strong technical expertise with a passion for high-quality public infrastructure. You’ll have:

• A recognised qualification in external lighting design (minimum: ILP Diploma Parts 1-3 or working towards).
• Chartered or Incorporated membership of the Institute of Lighting Professionals (or equivalent experience).
• Degree-level qualification (or equivalent experience) in lighting design, engineering or a related discipline.
• Substantial experience delivering complex public lighting schemes from inception to completion.

Salary Range (Full time equivalent) £44,430 - £51,663
