We are seeking a skilled organist and choir trainer who will have:

  • a recognised qualification in music,
  • experience of directing and training a church choir,
  • knowledge and understanding of the Catholic tradition of the Church of England, its liturgy and musical traditions,
  • the ability to develop our provision for including children in the full liturgical and musical traditions of the church.

Swindon is within reach of London, Reading, Oxford, Bath and Bristol. St Mark's has a distinguished and rich tradition of music and liturgy. The choir sings at Sunday Mass and Solemnities throughout the year, including a choral mass setting, motet, and minor propers to chant weekly. The choir also sings Evensong and Benediction monthly. St Mark's is blessed with a supportive clergy and appreciative congregation.

The salary is £9,000 p.a. for approx. 10 hours per week, inclusive of Sunday services (with prior rehearsal), feast days, and a Friday evening choir practice twice a month. Weddings and funerals offer additional fees. The post is subject to an enhanced DBS check and appropriate safeguarding training.
