Overview
As the Recycling and Waste Engagement Officer, you will support our communications and engagement work by playing a vital role in helping residents to recycle more, waste less and contribute to a cleaner, greener environment. The work you deliver will reach every household in our area and help us to achieve our ambitious recycling targets of 68% by 2027 and 70% by 2030.
What you will be doing
- As part of the Recycling and Waste Management team, you will work closely with colleagues across the team and with our wider council colleagues to deliver projects that make a real difference to residents and the environment.
- Acting as a first point of contact, you will maintain records, asset libraries and answer general queries.
- Daily, you will be supporting the delivery of communication and engagement plans for service changes and projects. It will be key for you to monitor feedback and analyse data to improve future communications.
- You will help to plan and deliver public events, workshops and presentations and create clear, engaging content for a wide variety of audiences and channels, including social media.
- It will be your responsibility to coordinate the production of communication materials with designers, printers and suppliers.
- Occasionally, you will deputise for the Recycling and Waste Communications Lead.
What we need from you
- We require you to hold a GCSE in English at grade 6 or above and maths at grade 5 or above (or equivalent qualification).
- You will have excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to adapt your style for different audiences.
- Given the nature of the role, you will have strong organisational skills with the ability to plan and deliver activities effectively.
- Strong IT skills are a must, especially in using Microsoft Office, databases and social media platforms. You will also have the ability to research, analyse and present findings clearly.
- You need to have a collaborative approach and the confidence to build relationships with a wide variety of stakeholders.
- Ideally, you’ll have experience in recycling and waste management, communications, marketing or engagement roles (paid or voluntary).
What you need to know
- This role is hybrid, you will predominantly be working from offices in Yate with the opportunity to work from home occasionally.
- You will be expected to travel throughout the authority and surrounding area so you must have a full, valid driving licence with regular access to a vehicle or have an alternative means of travel.
- The role involves some evening and occasional weekend work to support engagement activities (responsibility for this is shared across the team).
