Job Type: Discipline Specific Intern – Full time

Hours: 40 hours/week and on call responsibilities for combined Oncology/Medicine rota 1 in 4 weekdays/weekends.

Applications are invited for an exciting vacancy for a year-long Discipline-Specific Internship in Oncology commencing March 2026. You will be working as part of Southfields team of 2 ECVIM-CA Diplomates (one also American-Boarded in Radiation Oncology), and one post-residency clinician, as well as two Oncology nurses, 3 Therapeutic Radiographers and 1 dedicated Oncology patient care assistant. It is likely that we will be offering an Oncology Residency position in a year’s time, so this is a wonderful opportunity to take the next step in your Oncology career!

About us: Southfields is a large multi-disciplinary veterinary hospital in Essex, UK, with a world-renowned Oncology and Radiation Oncology Team, but also having Diploma-holders in diagnostic imaging, orthopaedics, soft tissue surgery, anaesthesia, internal medicine, ophthalmology and exotics. We are only 30 mins away from central London but also close to beautiful countryside and sandy beaches. There are excellent transport links to Europe and beyond via Stansted, London City and Gatwick airports as well as the Eurostar.

This is an exciting time to join our large multi-disciplinary veterinary team in our 40,000 sq. ft, state-of-the-art veterinary referral hospital, with 16 consulting rooms, new cross-sectional imaging machines (Siemens Magnetom Sola 1.5T MRI and Siemens 64-slice CT) and the jewel in our crown: a High-precision Varian TrueBeam® radiotherapy system with integral CT scanner for submillimeter patient positioning, RapidArc™ (VMAT) treatment delivery, remotely adjustable with 6 degrees of freedom (6DOF) couch and advanced respiratory motion management, which is unique in Europe. Our dedicated Oncology Suite comprises a separate entrance and waiting area for Oncology outpatients, two chemotherapy rooms, a purpose-built LINAC building incorporating patient prep, viewing and control rooms, and a dedicated ward for outpatients receiving courses of radiotherapy – cared for by our Oncology nurses.

Your role and responsibilities:

  • Assisting in every aspect of Oncology case management and patient care
  • Supervised responsibility for selected cases
  • Client and referring vet communication
  • Contribution to our active research programme through clinical research projects
  • Participation in an out of hours on-call rota for Internal Medicine and Oncology
