About the role

We're looking for an AVEVA PI Product Specialist to join Southern Water's Operational Technology (OT) Platforms team, taking ownership of one of the business's most critical operational data platforms. This is a specialist position supporting our AVEVA PI environment, a core platform that captures, stores and manages real-time operational data from telemetry and other business-critical systems across Southern Water. The platform underpins a wide range of operational processes, decision-making tools, reporting capabilities and digital initiatives.

As the technical subject matter expert for PI, you'll play a key role in maintaining, developing and enhancing the platform and its associated applications, ensuring the business continues to derive maximum value from both existing and emerging technologies. You'll work across operational, digital, engineering and project teams to deliver reliable, secure and scalable solutions that support Southern Water's operational performance and future transformation plans. This is a fantastic opportunity for a specialist who enjoys solving complex technical challenges, working with operational technologies, and helping organisations unlock the value of real-time industrial data.

What you’ll be responsible for:

  • Acting as the technical lead and subject matter expert for the AVEVA PI platform and associated technologies.
  • Supporting, administering and continuously improving PI infrastructure, applications and data environments.
  • Maintaining and developing PI Asset Framework (AF), PI Vision, PI Datalink, Data Archive and related components.
  • Supporting business-critical telemetry, operational and situational awareness applications that rely on PI data.
  • Working with stakeholders across the business to understand requirements and translate operational needs into practical technical solutions.
  • Implementing upgrades, enhancements and new releases across the PI ecosystem.
  • Supporting platform integrations, interfaces, connectors and data flows between operational and business systems.
  • Investigating, troubleshooting and resolving technical issues, providing second and third-line support where required.
  • Ensuring application, configuration and support documentation remains accurate and up to date.
  • Supporting the transition from legacy PI technologies to newer platform capabilities as part of Southern Water's digital roadmap.
  • Working alongside suppliers, contractors and delivery partners to implement new functionality and services.
  • Participating in project delivery activities including solution design, testing, implementation and transition into support.
  • Identifying opportunities to improve platform performance, reliability, resilience and user experience.
  • Supporting the wider Operational Technology team in maintaining secure, stable and effective operational systems.

What you’ll bring to the role:

Essential

  • Hands-on experience supporting and administering the AVEVA PI platform, including PI Data Archive, Asset Framework (AF), PI Vision and related components.
  • Experience working with industrial data historian, operational technology (OT) or real-time data environments.
  • Strong troubleshooting, problem-solving and analytical skills, with the ability to diagnose and resolve complex technical issues.
  • Ability to translate operational or business requirements into practical technical solutions, working effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Desirable

  • Experience with legacy PI technologies such as PI ProcessBook, alongside newer AVEVA PI capabilities and upgrade programmes.
  • Knowledge of telemetry, SCADA, industrial control systems, OT networks or wider operational technology environments.
  • Experience with PI Interfaces, Connectors, OPC protocols, system integrations or related technologies.
  • Experience within utilities, water, wastewater, manufacturing, energy, oil & gas, or other industrially regulated sectors.
