About the role

We are looking for an MCERTS Flow Coordinator to join our Environmental Monitoring & Reporting team. In this role, you will work to ensure Southern Water meets its obligations under the Environment Agency’s Measurement Certification Scheme (MCERTS). You’ll be instrumental in verifying data accuracy, coordinating inspections, and driving continuous improvement in flow monitoring and reporting.

What you will be responsible for:

  • Data Verification & Compliance: Ensure flow and Event Duration Monitoring (EDM) data is accurately reported to the Environment Agency (EA).
  • Certification Coordination: Assist in MCERTS certification, working closely with operational teams and external inspectors.
  • Technical Support: Provide expert advice on flow measurement, event duration monitors, and wastewater processes.
  • Regulatory Projects: Support the delivery of flow monitoring schemes under the Water Industry National Environment Programme (WINEP).
  • Quality Assurance: Maintain and improve the MCERTS management system and associated processes.

What you’ll bring to the role:

  • A degree in science, engineering, or environmental studies (or equivalent experience).
  • Experience in the utilities sector, preferably in water and wastewater.
  • Knowledge of environmental legislation, regulation, and permits.
  • Strong analytical skills and experience handling large data sets using Excel or similar tools.

As part of this role, you’ll be responsible for ensuring compliance with Environmental Permits, specifically by monitoring and reporting on:

  • Total Daily Volume (TDV): The total amount of water discharged or treated within a 24-hour period.
  • Flow Passed Forward (FPF): The volume of water successfully processed and moved through the wastewater treatment process.
  • Storm Event Duration Monitoring (EDM): The tracking of stormwater overflows, helping ensure compliance with environmental regulations.
