The Metering Assurance Lead is responsible for ensuring the effective delivery of quality assurance across the end‑to‑end smart metering programme, supporting a strategic initiative to reduce water abstraction, minimise environmental and carbon impact, and improve operational efficiency. Through smart metering, the organisation seeks to enhance customer engagement, provide accurate usage insights, and identify leakage, ultimately improving customer experience.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement, and maintain robust QA processes and standards across all stages of smart meter installation and operation.
  • Collaborate with internal teams and external partners, including the Alternative Metering Service (AMS) provider.
  • Monitor supplier performance against KPIs, conduct regular audits, and drive continuous improvement for high‑quality installations and reliable data.
  • Lead a team responsible for data quality and assurance activities, ensuring data integrity throughout the programme.
  • Identify and mitigate risks, support project planning and delivery, and provide clear, accurate reporting to senior stakeholders.
  • Embed quality, compliance and data accuracy within the programme to support operational excellence and improved customer outcomes.
  • Deliver quality assurance management, including new QA processes, compliance with industry standards and regular audits.
  • Monitor AMS partner performance, provide guidance on best practices and facilitate performance reviews.
  • Oversee the entire smart meter installation process, identify and mitigate potential issues, and maintain data quality.
  • Prepare detailed QA reports, maintain documentation, and provide updates to senior stakeholders.
  • Communicate findings and recommendations to stakeholders clearly and concisely.
  • Assist in developing project plans, timelines, and resource allocation.
  • Identify potential risks and develop mitigation strategies.
  • Lead a team of staff managing data quality.

Qualifications

  • Understanding of quality assurance and basic audit processes.
  • Knowledge of end‑to‑end delivery, including field work and suppliers.
  • Understanding of KPIs, SLAs, and performance monitoring.
  • Aware of data accuracy and data quality principles.
  • Basic understanding of risk, compliance, and controls in regulated environments.
  • Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office suite.
  • Project delivery experience with structured governance.
  • Knowledge of Water industry regulatory frameworks (desirable).
  • People management or leadership qualification (desirable).
