Job Overview
Southern Water is seeking a Senior Water Quality Process Scientist to join our Water Performance team in the Otterbourne, Hampshire area. The role focuses on monitoring and optimizing drinking water quality from source to tap to ensure we deliver a constant, high‑quality supply.
Responsibilities
- Ensure adherence to UK and EU legislation related to drinking water quality.
- Monitor and analyze telemetry and laboratory data.
- Conduct routine process audits of Water Supply Works in area of responsibility.
- Collaborate with field operations staff to optimize treatment processes and maintain regulatory compliance.
- Undertake water quality risk assessments and advise on service recovery during water quality events.
- Investigate root causes of compliance failures and incidents, producing remedial reports.
- Provide input for planned and reactive reporting to the Drinking Water Inspectorate.
- Participate in standby roster on a minimum 1/12‑day basis.
About You
- Good understanding of water chemistry, biology, and treatment principles.
- Knowledge of UK water supply regulatory framework.
- Graduate degree in science, engineering, or equivalent business experience.
- Confident in collecting and analyzing data to investigate scientific issues and draw conclusions.
- Excellent IT skills, including data analysis in Excel.
- Good mathematical fluency.
- Self‑motivated, assertive, independent thinker who is also a good team worker in a reactive environment.
