Help Shape the Future of Wastewater Risk and Resilience

At Southern Water, we're committed to delivering resilient wastewater services that protect our customers, communities, and the environment. We're looking for a Risk Analyst to play a pivotal role in helping us understand, prioritise, and manage risk across our wastewater assets and operations. This is an exciting opportunity to work at the heart of our Asset Management function, using data-driven insight to influence investment decisions, improve operational resilience, and support the delivery of our long-term performance commitments.

Working closely with colleagues from Asset Management, Operations, Engineering and Planning, you'll help create a clear picture of risk across our wastewater business and ensure investment is targeted where it delivers the greatest value and benefit.

What You'll Be Doing

  • Analyse asset, operational, environmental, customer, and financial data to identify current and emerging risks across the wastewater network.
  • Develop and maintain a comprehensive view of wastewater asset risk, ensuring risks are accurately recorded, monitored, and tracked.
  • Support key regulatory and investment planning frameworks, including the Drainage and Wastewater Management Plan (DWMP) and PR29 submissions.
  • Collaborate with Operations, Engineering, Asset Management, and Planning teams to improve risk identification, reporting, and management practices.
  • Integrate reporting systems, operational intelligence, and subject matter expertise to provide a consistent and robust understanding of risk.
  • Produce meaningful risk reports, dashboards, and performance insights for a variety of stakeholders, including senior leadership teams.
  • Monitor trends and identify areas where performance may be outside agreed risk appetite levels.
  • Support the prioritisation of investment programmes and mitigation activities based on risk, resilience, and value.
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of risk methodologies, reporting frameworks, and analytical processes.
  • Help drive better decision-making that improves customer outcomes, environmental performance, and asset resilience.

What We're Looking For

Essential

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret complex data and turn it into actionable insights.
  • Experience assessing, analysing, and communicating business, operational, or asset-related risks.
  • Ability to work independently, manage competing priorities, and take ownership of deliverables.
  • A proactive mindset with a focus on identifying opportunities for improvement and driving positive change.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills and experience working with large datasets.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to present complex information clearly and effectively.

Desirable

  • Experience within the water, wastewater, utilities, infrastructure, or other asset-intensive sectors.
  • Knowledge of Power BI, SQL, Alteryx, or other data analysis and visualisation tools.
  • Experience using asset management, risk management, or investment planning systems.
  • Understanding of resilience planning, investment prioritisation, and regulatory performance frameworks.
  • Familiarity with wastewater asset management and operational performance reporting.
