Process Technician (mechanical / electrical)
Join Southern Water as a Process Technician (mechanical / electrical) and contribute to the maintenance and repair of water supply works, reservoirs and booster stations across Sussex.
Overview
Location: Sussex Region – requires travel across multiple sites and a full driving licence.
Salary: £36,954.02 to £46,869.22 per annum. Additional standby payments up to £10,000 per year.

Responsibilities
- Perform reactive and planned maintenance of plant and equipment on a daily basis.
- Install new plant and equipment as required.
- Co‑train, coach and develop staff, including apprentices.
- Respond to alarms, fault‑find issues and identify or escalated solutions.
- Provide technical expertise to internal and external contractors.
- Manage projects internally and provide technical advice to contractors.
- Obtain quotations for parts, equipment or contractor work and provide own quotations for comparison.
- Update company systems and databases accurately and promptly.
- Identify possible future risks, recommend changes and raise issues for resolution.
- Provide standby cover on a 24/7 basis in the 1‑in‑6 roster.
- Stay up‑to‑date with new technology and approaches to improve plant/service.
Qualifications
- BTEC Level 3, NVQ or equivalent in mechanical and/or electrical disciplines.
- Time‑served apprenticeship preferred.
- In‑depth understanding of mechanical/electrical regulations, systems, equipment and processes.
- Problem‑solving skills with ability to implement solutions or escalation.
- Excellent communication skills, providing technical expertise to contractors.
- Resilient and adaptable to a constantly changing environment.
