You will be part of the frontline operations team in the East Sussex area and the business simply cannot operate without you. Every day is different, you will be working in all weather conditions carrying out a range of tasks, to ensure the essential functions of our wastewater treatment works and wastewater pumping stations operate to maintain the supply to our customers and protect the environment. Although work is generated to you on a weekly basis, you will be managing your own time, giving you the freedom and flexibility to design your own working week, you will learn how to be organised and proactive. Your core responsibilities will be: Compliance testing.

Responsibilities

  • Maintenance tasks – unblocking pumps, screens and valves to ensure continuous plant operation.
  • Repair of alarm systems.
  • Monitoring, collating and reporting of data to ensure statutory and regulatory compliance.
  • Fault finding and problem‑solving skills are essential to respond to breakdowns.
  • Site hygiene in line with our regulatory obligations.
  • Carrying out regular sampling to support process monitoring and compliance.
  • Ensuring sampling equipment is maintained, calibrated and functioning correctly.
  • Receiving and handling deliveries of chemicals, such as ferric sulphate, with full awareness of hazardous material protocols and safety procedures.
  • Comfortable working outdoors, potentially in all weather conditions.
  • Prepared to work within the company\'s rota of a 7‑day working week and participate on a standby rota.
  • Part of a team who delivers excellent performance by understanding how you affect the overall mission of Southern Water.
  • Have a good sense of humour, because of what you will be working with and not to be too squeamish.
  • Adaptable, flexible, patient, reliable and self‑motivated.
  • Good with time management.
  • Confident to work effectively and efficiently on your own.
  • Keen to learn and operate complex processes with high‑quality controls.
  • You will be part of a 1 in 6 week Standby Rota.

Qualifications

You MUST have a valid UK Manual Drivers Licence.
