Southern Water is recruiting an Instrumentation, Control and Automation Technician to support the processing of water for public use.

As an ICA Technician, you will maintain, repair, modify, configure, commission, calibrate and install all plant instrumentation, control and monitoring equipment, shutdown systems, alarms and telemetry across the Southern Water region in the wastewater function to ensure that it is operating efficiently and effectively. This role requires occasional paid out of hours working and during on-call scheduling.

Your responsibilities are to include:

  • Fault finding, calibration, testing, investigation and programming in technical aspects such as telemetry, various flow meters, detectors, control systems, turbidity and other measurement meters.
  • Implement process improvements via control system modifications, diagnosing and fixing complex process and control system faults.
  • Conduct planned maintenance and/or calibrate instrumentation to Southern Water standards to ensure reliability and accuracy.
  • Respond to instrumentation faults within Southern Water parameters, as guided by the Regional Control Centre.
  • Undertake investigative work on instruments and process problems at wastewater plants, identifying any faults and implementing remedial action.
  • Complete documentation accurately and in a timely manner to maintain internal change control standards, ISO9001 accreditation and other systems.
  • Implement control system modifications from operational requests to improve process control or compliance.
  • Coach and train team members to develop their skills.

Skills and experience needed:

  • NVQ3 in Electrical or Electronic Engineering or time-served apprenticeship.
  • Experience within a process orientated industry such as water utility, petrochemical, electricity, manufacturing or similar.
  • Excellent problem solving and fault-finding skills.
  • Experience with instrumentation or control or automation.
  • Strong documentation and regulatory compliance.
  • Collaborative with good communication skills.
  • Enthusiasm for learning and growth.
  • Full, current UK driving licence.
