Location: Southern House, Durrington

Contract type: Fixed term contract – 12 months

Hours: Monday to Friday, 38 hours per week, includes participation in a 1 in 6 on‑call Incident Management rota.

Salary: Up to £32,000 per annum, depending on experience, plus standby payments.

About the Role

Southern Water is seeking an experienced and motivated Emergency Planner to join the Emergency Planning team based in Durrington. This role supports the delivery of a robust emergency planning and response service, ensuring the organisation remains resilient, compliant and ready to respond to incidents.

Responsibilities

  • Develop emergency response plans and keep them current and fit for purpose.
  • Plan, deliver and evaluate emergency exercises at tactical and strategic levels.
  • Support real‑time incident response through the on‑call rota.
  • Lead post‑incident debriefs and drive continuous improvement.
  • Promote emergency preparedness and resilience awareness.
  • Build strong relationships with external resilience partners.
  • Represent Southern Water at resilience meetings and forums.

Essential Requirements

  • A‑level education or equivalent experience in emergency planning or resilience.
  • Experience in fast‑paced operational or incident‑driven environments.
  • Strong IT skills and confident report writing.
  • Clear written and verbal communication.
  • High attention to detail and professionalism.
  • Ability to make sound decisions under pressure.
  • Full UK driving licence and own vehicle.
  • Regular travel across the Southern Water region.

Desirable Requirements

  • Working knowledge of the water industry.
  • Experience delivering exercises or training.
