Job Title: Audit & Governance Assistant

Location: Hampshire, Sussex or Kent (office base location can be flexible within Southern Water regions) – Hybrid, minimum 1x office day per week.

Perm/FTC: Permanent

Salary: Up to £32,000 per annum

A key role within our Water Network & Customer team, we are recruiting for an Audit and Governance Assistant (internally known as Work Gatekeeper). This role is responsible for reviewing, validating and governing work orders raised by our Network Inspectors to ensure correctly scoped jobs progress to contractors. You will help maintain operational efficiency, enforce governance standards, budget discipline and customer satisfaction throughout the process. You will be supporting works within our Hampshire area, however we are flexible with your base location.

Responsibilities

  • Review, validate and govern work orders raised by Network Inspectors, ensuring correct job categorisation, priority, and accuracy of information.
  • Challenge and clarify work orders where necessary, liaising with Inspectors to ensure justification and evidence are sufficient.
  • Apply governance frameworks and decision making criteria to determine whether jobs should proceed to our contractors, be amended, or closed.
  • Prevent unnecessary spend by identifying and rejecting incorrectly scoped or unjustified work orders.
  • Maintain accurate governance records of decisions made and reasons for rejection or amendment of work orders.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement by feeding back insights and suggesting process enhancements.
  • Ad hoc general admin duties.

Qualifications & Skills

  • Excellent attention to detail and ability to spot inconsistencies or errors.
  • Confident communicator, able to challenge constructively and professionally.
  • Analytical mindset with the ability to interpret data and trends.
  • Ability to work independently and manage workload effectively.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office.

Desirable

  • Understanding of water network operations and maintenance activities.
  • Experience with Southern Water IT systems.
  • Some experience with Excel.
