About the role

Water underpins everyday life, yet it remains an industry that is still evolving in how it uses technology, data and automation. At Southern Water, that is changing. We are building a new Intelligent Automation and Process Engineering capability at the heart of the organisation. This is not about incremental improvements, it is about redefining how work gets done, embedding automation, data and AI into our core processes, and creating a more efficient, resilient and future-ready business. As Process Architect, you will play a critical role in shaping that future. This is a foundational position within a brand-new capability, giving you the opportunity to define and own Southern Water’s enterprise-wide process architecture. You will set the standards, frameworks and governance that ensure consistency, control and performance across the organisation, enabling both operational excellence and large-scale transformation. Working closely with senior leaders across Water, Waste, Customer, Finance, People, Corporate and Digital, you will ensure processes are designed end-to-end, aligned to business priorities, and ready for digitisation, automation and AI-enabled decision making. This role goes beyond process design, it is about shaping how the organisation operates at scale.

What you’ll be responsible for:

  • Defining and maintaining enterprise process architecture, including hierarchy, taxonomy and end-to-end frameworks
  • Establishing and governing process standards (BPMN 2.0, documentation, metadata, SOPs)
  • Leading cross-functional process design across multiple business areas
  • Producing high-quality artefacts including process maps, value streams, RACIs and control frameworks
  • Designing and embedding KPI and SLA frameworks aligned to business outcomes
  • Providing leadership and oversight to the Process Performance Analyst and wider process community
  • Translating performance insights into architecture-led improvements
  • Identifying opportunities for optimisation, digitisation and automation (RPA, AI, low-code)
  • Partnering with Intelligent Automation teams to ensure processes are ready for delivery
  • Facilitating workshops and building alignment across senior stakeholders
  • Embedding a culture of process excellence and continuous improvement

What you’ll bring to the role:

Essential

  • Extensive experience in process architecture, process excellence or optimisation
  • Strong expertise in BPMN 2.0 and enterprise process frameworks (e.g. APQC PCF or similar)
  • Proven experience designing and governing end-to-end processes across complex organisations
  • Strong ability to design KPI frameworks and translate insights into improvement
  • Excellent stakeholder engagement skills, including influencing senior leadership
  • Experience leading or mentoring analysts or process professionals
  • Strong analytical mindset with the ability to identify optimisation and automation opportunities

Desirable

  • Lean Six Sigma certification (Green/Black Belt)
  • Professional BPM certification (e.g. ABPMP, OCEB)
  • Experience working with automation technologies (Power Platform, RPA, AI, workflow tools)
  • Experience in a regulated or infrastructure environment
  • Experience supporting large-scale transformation or operating model change
