The Environment & Innovation team is at the forefront of Southern Water’s drive to enhance and protect the environment. Deploying the latest innovative solutions and working in partnership with our customers and stakeholders, the team takes a holistic approach to managing water quality and flow across the region. The portfolio has rapidly expanded from £50 million to over £2 billion in the next 10-year period. This is a fast-paced team that is now expanding to continue to deliver a larger programme of sustainable and innovative solutions.

A brand-new position has been created to join our Environment & Innovation team as a Catchment Specialist – Regulatory Reporting.

Job Overview

You’ll support the team in developing and delivering sustainable, catchment-scale environmental solutions to water quality risks to supply challenges, with a strong emphasis on accurate regulatory reporting and cross-functional collaboration. This includes technical areas such as water and wastewater programme integration, investigations, water quality monitoring programmes, soil and land conservation, GIS and data reporting systems, water quality catchment risk assessments, and surface and groundwater quality assessments.

  • Technical Management: support delivery and reporting to meet regulatory requirements. Provide technical evaluations and recommendations on environmental measures to mitigate predicted challenges.
  • Technical Expertise: act as a subject matter expert on catchment management, water and environmental policy. Scope and evaluate projects for delivery via specialist frameworks.
  • Strategy: contribute to statutory plans and advise on future catchment risks to water resource capability.
  • Engagement: build strong relationships with regulators, water companies, industry groups, and Catchment Partnerships.
About You
  • Experience in water quality investigations and catchment management planning/delivery
  • Strong technical report writing and review skills
  • Ability to manage multi-disciplinary tasks to high standards and deadlines
  • Experience with monitoring programmes, data analysis, and reporting
  • Familiarity with IT systems and GIS mapping tools
  • Degree (and ideally a Master’s) in Environmental Science or related discipline, or equivalent experience
  • In-depth knowledge of water quality investigations, catchment risk assessments, and translating regulatory requirements into actionable plans.
Package

This role will be full time Monday to Friday with a hybrid approach to working between our Falmer office and home. We are offering a salary of circa £45,000 as well as other benefits including:
