Under the direct supervision of the designated Head Nurse, demonstrates proficiency in administering the fundamentals of the nursing process, contributes to nursing assessments and care plans, and participates in evaluating nursing care. Shares responsibility for individual patients or an entire patient population.

Patient Assessment:
- Obtains and documents comprehensive nursing history.
- Performs basic patient assessments with knowledge of anatomy, physiology, and pathology.
- Records vital signs, notes changes, and investigates as needed.
- Identifies abnormal data, reports to physicians, and incorporates findings into care plans.
Nursing Care Plan:
- Uses assessment data to develop effective care plans.
- Includes patients and families in planning and goal setting.
Plan Implementation:
- Provides safe, therapeutic care based on care plans.
- Follows established standards, policies, and procedures.
- Supervises nonprofessional personnel and communicates effectively with the care team.
- Performs basic technical skills competently.
- Identifies and addresses patient teaching needs.
- Considers discharge planning and community resources.
- Responds appropriately to emergencies.
Evaluation:
- Evaluates patient responses to nursing care.
- Participates in evaluating nursing care systems and processes.
Leadership and Education:
- Supports nursing standards and policies.
- Supervises and instructs nonprofessional staff.
- Participates in conferences and peer reviews.
- Engages in ongoing professional development and education.
Qualifications:
- Graduate of an accredited nursing program; BSN preferred.
- Minimum six months of recent professional nursing experience.
- Active RN license in TN or a compact state with intent to obtain TN license within 30 days.
- Current BLS, ACLS, PALS certifications or obtain within 90 days of hire.
