The Southern Sunday Football League is one of London's longest-running and most respected amateur football leagues, home to over 120 clubs and more than 4,000 registered players. We are an FA England Accredited League and proud winners of the London FA Grassroots League of the Year award in 2020. We believe football should be for everyone. That belief now needs someone to help make it a reality.

We are looking for a passionate, credible volunteer to join our Committee as EDI Lead — helping to shape the culture, values, and future direction of the League on equality, diversity, and inclusion. This is a genuine leadership role within a well-established grassroots football community. You will have the backing of the Committee, access to a network of 120+ clubs, and the opportunity to build something that lasts.

What You Will Be Working Towards:

  • Building an EDI Calendar: Develop and manage a dedicated annual EDI calendar — identifying key awareness dates, cultural celebrations, and national campaigns throughout the football season. Use it to ensure the League is actively celebrating, promoting, and participating in moments that matter to our membership and the wider community.
  • Establishing an EDI Sub-Committee: Recruit and coordinate a dedicated EDI sub-committee drawing from across the League — Committee members, club representatives, and referees. The goal is a broad, representative coalition driving inclusion from within, not a single voice working in isolation.

What the Role Involves:

  • Providing EDI guidance and constructive challenge at Committee level.
  • Developing and reviewing League policy on equality, diversity, and inclusion.
  • Acting as the first point of contact for EDI-related concerns raised by clubs, players, or officials.
  • Building and maintaining partnerships with key external organisations including London FA, Football v Homophobia, Kick It Out, and other relevant bodies — bringing campaigns, resources, and training opportunities back to the League and its clubs.
  • Representing the League within partner networks and at relevant external events.
  • Supporting clubs in creating more inclusive environments for players, officials, and volunteers.
  • Contributing to League communications and campaigns that promote inclusion across all 120+ clubs.
  • Monitoring EDI-related incidents and reporting trends to the wider Committee.

Who We Are Looking For:

  • A genuine commitment to equality, diversity, and inclusion — in football and beyond.
  • Confidence to advise and challenge at committee level.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to engage credibly with a wide range of people — from club secretaries to national partner organisations.
  • The ability to work independently, take initiative, and follow through.

It would be a bonus if you have:

  • Professional or lived experience in EDI, HR, safeguarding, or community development.
  • Familiarity with grassroots football structures and culture.
  • Experience building committees, working groups, or volunteer networks.
  • Existing relationships with football's national EDI bodies.

Time Commitment: Roughly 4–6 hours per month, including Committee meetings, partner engagement, and ad hoc club support. Meetings are typically held in the evening and can be attended in person or virtually.
