The role
Southern Housing is seeking a Senior Support Worker to join our Single Homeless Pathway Service across the Isle of Wight.
As a Senior Support Worker, you will assist the Team Leader in leading and working as part of a team to support residents in accordance with our contractual obligations. Flexibility to meet the needs of residents and the wider service is required.
You should be physically capable of moving and handling, and will undergo an enhanced Disclosure & Barring Service and Adult Barred List check. A driving license and access to a vehicle with business insurance (mileage paid) are desirable.
Availability to work evenings and weekends, participate in the on-call rota, and possibly cover sleep-ins is expected to meet service needs.
This is a permanent, full-time position across the Isle of Wight (including Newport, Ryde, Sandown, Shanklin).
What you’ll be doing
- Supporting the Team Leader with staff supervision, appraisals, absence monitoring, and staff development to ensure compliance and professional growth.
- Maintaining awareness of legislative and contractual requirements for quality service delivery.
- Promoting resident involvement, daily activities, and social inclusion within the community.
- Assisting in resident assessments if required.
- Providing support based on individual support plans to promote independence, rights, and choices.
What you’ll need
- Relevant NVQ Level 3 qualification (or equivalent) or studying towards it.
- Basic First Aid certificate.
- Knowledge of health & safety appropriate to the role.
- Awareness of local services.
- Effective listening and communication skills, both written and oral.
- Ability to work independently and remain calm in emergencies.
