Southern Housing is excited to offer an excellent opportunity to join our dedicated Fire Safety team as a Fire Safety Surveyor on a secondment/fixed term contract until 3 December 2026. In this role, you will take the lead in overseeing fire risk assessment activities across Southern Housing's portfolio.
- Ensuring that all designated fire risk assessment works are actioned and correctly undertaken within the prescribed timescales.
- Ensuring that all Southern Housing's properties owned and managed properties are maintained to the highest possible standards and that all statutory and regulatory requirements are met.
- Analyse and assess building fire safety related defects and deficiencies, provide remedial proposals and prepare specifications for remedial works.
- Carry out post inspection/quality control checks on works and pursue any necessary redress to achieve satisfactory completion.
- Carry out H&S spot checks and monitor contractors to ensure they are working safely and complying with all relevant Health & Safety risk assessments and method statements.
- Ensuring that staff, residents, leaseholders, managing agencies and property owners are provided with a high standard of service.
You will conduct inspections across London and monthly visits to our Farringdon office for team meetings. On occasion, you may also be required to conduct inspections in Kent or Midlands. You will be expected to work on-site at least three days per week, with the remaining time spent working from home or from an office location.
Experience required:
- Experience as a fire/building surveyor in a maintenance environment carrying out pre and post inspections.
- Fire Qualification NEBOSH fire or equivalent.
- Working knowledge of the Regulatory Reform Fire Safety Order 2005.
- Experience of working with contractors using SOR and non-SOR contracts.
- Knowledge of relevant and current codes of practice, building regulations, health and safety legislation, standards and materials.
- An in-depth knowledge of construction, design and fire related defects and how to correct them.
- A full UK Driving Licence and access to a vehicle.
