The role involves overseeing fire risk assessment activities across Southern Housing's portfolio, ensuring that all designated fire risk assessment works are actioned and correctly undertaken within the prescribed timescales. You will ensure that all properties owned and managed by Southern Housing are maintained to the highest possible standards and that all statutory and regulatory requirements are met.
Your responsibilities include:
- Analysing and assessing building fire safety related defects and deficiencies, providing remedial proposals and preparing specifications for remedial works.
- Carrying out post inspection/quality control checks on works and pursuing any necessary redress to achieve satisfactory completion.
- Conducting health and safety spot checks and monitoring contractors to ensure they are working safely and complying with all relevant Health & Safety risk assessments and method statements.
- Providing a high standard of service to staff, residents, leaseholders, managing agencies, and property owners.
You will conduct inspections across East & West Sussex, Surrey, Hampshire, and the Isle of Wight. The role includes occasional travel, with overnight stays on the Isle of Wight every 2-3 months and monthly visits to our Farringdon office for team meetings. You will be expected to work on-site at least three days per week, with the remaining time spent working from home or from an office location.
Requirements:
- Experience as a fire/building surveyor in a maintenance environment carrying out pre and post inspections.
- Fire Qualification NEBOSH fire or equivalent.
- Working knowledge of the Regulatory Reform Fire Safety Order 2005.
- Experience of working with contractors using SOR and non-SOR contracts.
- Knowledge of relevant and current codes of practice, building regulations, health and safety legislation, standards, and materials.
- An in-depth knowledge of construction, design, and fire related defects and how to correct them.
- A Full UK Driving Licence and access to a vehicle.
