SUMMARY OF POST:

• These posts will participate in a 2 in 14 full shift rota. These posts will attract a salary of £61,542 - £99,216 per annum. These are full-time posts, however anyone interested in working part-time / job share is also welcome to apply. These posts have an attractive annual leave entitlement of a minimum of 25 days per annum and up to a maximum of 30 days per annum (depending on previous experience) rising to 31 after 7 years' service (Specialty Doctor or equivalent level). The posts also have an attractive study leave entitlement of up to 30 days paid leave with expenses in any period of three years. The Southern Trust has established a dedicated revalidation support team which ensures all doctors have an annual appraisal with a trained appraiser and supports all doctors through the revalidation process. The Trust has also appointed corporate, Consultant Leads for appraisal and revalidation. The Trust supports the requirements for continuing professional development (CPD) as laid down by the GMC and is committed to providing time and financial support for these activities. DUTIES OF THE POST:

Clinical Duties

Clinical duties will include all those duties normally expected of a Specialty Doctor in a similar sized Emergency Department in the United Kingdom. The majority of the appointee’s time will be spent on clinical duties. However, an integral part of the post will be the supervision and teaching of the junior medical staff in the Emergency Department. In addition, the appointee will be expected to take part in the formal teaching and ongoing audit programme within the department for which weekly protected time is allocated. The detail of clinical duties will include:

• Provision of primary medical care to patients suffering recent injuries and acute medical and surgical conditions of sudden onset. Occurring in circumstances where it is not practical to seek the assistance of their General Practitioner. Provision of primary care to patients taken ill whilst in transit through the area. On site treatment of accident victims and those suffering from acute illness when requested by Medical Practitioners or rescue organisations. Treatment of patients referred to the department by General Practitioners excluding those normally referred directly by Practitioners to the medical/surgical or other specialist departments. Assessment and treatment of patients admitted to the Clinical Decision Unit. Preparation of such correspondence reports and other documents as may be necessary during the performance of the above duties. Provision of advice to members of the general public who contact the department by telephone or in person. Management of waiting times in the Department to maintain 95% compliance with the 4 hour target. Teaching undergraduates, nursing staff, ambulance personnel and colleagues. Liaison with social service departments, ambulance, police, education and other departments of the local authority and health services when required for the treatment of patients. Other duties may be allocated by the Consultants to ensure the proper care of patients. Clinical and professional responsibility for patients admitted under her/her care to keep patients (and their carers if appropriate) informed about their condition. To involve patients (and their carers if appropriate) in decision making about their treatment. To maintain professional standards and obligations as set out by the General Medical Council and comply in particular with the GMC’s guidance on Good Medical Practice as amended or substituted from time to time. Carrying out any work related to and reasonably incidental to the duties set out in your job plan as the keeping of records and the provision of reports, the proper delegation of tasks and maintaining skills and knowledge.
