Job Description

The Northampton Chronicle and Echo has an exciting opportunity for a Court Reporter, with proven experience in Crown and Magistrates’ Courts. As our Court Reporter, you’ll provide accurate coverage from court roomsin Northampton.

So, what do you need to get started?

The ideal candidate will be a senior reporter, or a talented trainee reporter, with at least 100wpm shorthand and be able to provide samples of your work to share with us.

You will be well versed in criminal law, civil law, and family law and have a comprehensive knowledge of general court procedures and the law. An understanding of the rules regarding media reporting of the courts and the restrictions that apply.

Accurate writing, note taking,attention to detail, proper preparation and maintaining focus during busy court hearings is crucial to success, as is the ability to communicate daily with solicitors and court personnel.

Proficient in producingdigitaland print content,you will be familiar with content management systems. However, if you bring a strong work ethic, enthusiasm, a can-do attitude, and a commitment to develop your skillset, full familiarisation and training will be provided. A driving licence and your own car will be a distinct advantage.
