An exciting and challenging opportunity for a Health Care Assistant has become available within the Heart and Chest clinic based at Southend Hospital. This role would be a fantastic match for an experienced Health Care Assistant who is keen to work within a busy and dynamic outpatients area.
Responsibilities
- You will be part of a close team of nurses and HCAs in running an efficient outpatients service for patients attending Cardiac, respiratory and sleep appointments. Alongside the core activities associated with outpatients services the successful candidate will be trained in a variety of diagnostic tests such as spirometry, peak flow and FENO.
- The successful candidate will be enthusiastic with a passion for meeting patients\\\’ needs and an eye for detail.
- At all times maintain the dignity and respect of patients.
- Maintain front of house experience for patients – represent the Trust and ensure the patient experience is second to none at all times conform to the Trust Values regarding Excellence, Compassion and Respect.
- Maintain excellent communication with patients, relatives and members of the MDT regarding all aspects of care, demonstrating a variety of communication skills in accordance with the client group.
- Chaperone and assist medical and nursing staff with various clinic sessions.
- Coordinate clinics ensuring patients are prepared for their appointment and seen as quickly as possible.
- Once competencies are completed carrying out simple diagnostic tests such as spirometry and FENO testing with support from the qualified nurses.
- Taking and recording of temperature, pulse, respirations, blood pressure, oxygen saturation on instruction from the Registered Nurse.
- Accurately recording the results and reporting significant findings.
- Undertake equipment safety checks.
- Respond appropriately to emergency situations.
- Ensure that the clinical / care environment is clean, safe and tidy.
- Ensure the environment is stocked and equipment is ready to use.
- Contribute to the reduction of healthcare acquired infection by ensuring a high standard of infection control practice in the light of research, current best evidence and legislation.
- Booking EBUS and Bronchus on the system.
- Demonstration of inhalers and peak flow.
