Community Music Support Assistant in Southend-on-Sea

Music on Sea (MOS) is passionate about providing inspiring musical opportunities for children and young people across Southend-on-Sea. We are looking for a welcoming, organised and proactive Community Music Support Assistant (CMSA) to support the smooth running of our community music centres and help create a positive experience for children, families and tutors. This contract is offered on a part time (5 hours a week) and permanent basis. This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role at the heart of our music provision, ensuring sessions run safely and efficiently while providing excellent support to families and young musicians.

As a Community Music Support Assistant, you will be the first point of contact for children, parents and visitors attending our community music centres. You will provide on-site administrative support, maintain attendance records, support safeguarding processes and help ensure a safe and welcoming environment for all participants. You will be responsible for:

• Welcoming families
• Managing sign‑in and sign‑out procedures
• Processing registers and attendance information
• Coordinating children during non‑teaching periods
• Sharing important information from the central Music on Sea team
• Supporting tutors with venue arrangements, health and safety procedures, fire evacuations and the safe dismissal of children at the end of sessions

The role includes supporting performances and events throughout the year and working closely with tutors, families and colleagues to ensure the highest standard of service delivery.

Working Pattern
This role is currently scheduled for approximately 5 hours per week during term time, with sessions taking place at:

• Mondays: Southend Music Centre (currently Southend High School for Boys), 4:10p.m. to 6:40p.m.
• Saturdays: Southend Academy of Music (currently Earls Hall Primary School), 9:10a.m. to 12:10p.m.

Venue locations and session times may change with at least one term's notice. There may also be opportunities for additional paid hours to support performances and events throughout the year. NB: The advertised salary will be pro rata to 5 hours a week and term time.

What you'll need to succeed:

• Organised and approachable individual with excellent communication and customer service skills.
• Previous experience of working with schools, children or families would be advantageous, alongside a genuine commitment to providing a positive and safe environment for young people.
• Confidence in using Microsoft Office 365 applications, including Outlook, Word and Excel, and ability to maintain accurate records and data.
• Strong organisational skills, attention to detail and ability to manage multiple tasks.
• Ability to build positive relationships with children, families and colleagues, adapt well to changing priorities, and demonstrate professionalism, integrity and teamwork in everything they do.
