Location: Barton Veterinary Hospital, Canterbury

Contract: Permanent

Hours: 32 hours per week; 1 of every 5 Saturdays (8:00 a.m.–12:00 p.m.)

Role Overview

Provide exceptional client service and support the veterinary team by managing front‑desk operations, patient records, finances and client communication.

Responsibilities

  • Handle incoming calls, schedule appointments and ensure efficient front‑desk workflow.
  • Respond to client enquiries via phone, email and in‑person interactions with professionalism.
  • Greet and register new clients, ensuring a warm welcome.
  • Process and manage insurance forms accurately.
  • Dispense medications as required.
  • Process payments and manage financial transactions accurately.
  • Provide empathy and understanding to clients during distressing times while maintaining professionalism.
  • Organise patients within the in‑house system efficiently.
  • Liaise with veterinary practices to address patient needs and queries.
  • Make necessary phone calls regarding debts, belongings and refunds.
  • Ensure every client feels welcomed and valued at the practice.

Required Qualifications

  • Previous experience as a receptionist; experience in a veterinary setting is a bonus.
  • Resilience and the ability to handle emotional situations with grace.
  • Strong communication skills paired with genuine empathy.
  • Outstanding customer service skills and experience with the public.
  • Positive attitude and superior teamwork abilities.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and database systems.
