We are currently looking for a Retail Assistant to join our Commercial - Retail team on a fixed term, part time contract until January 2027. Come and join our retail team at the Southbank Centre, where we're dedicated to crafting inviting spaces and fostering memorable experiences together. With three bustling shops situated across our site—in the Hayward Gallery, Mandela Walk, and the newly refurbished space in the Royal Festival Hall—you'll play a vital role as a Retail Assistant. Your contributions will uphold our welcoming atmosphere and contribute to our culture of teamwork and innovation.

We are hiring for several roles on a continuous two-week rota that follows an alternate weekend pattern (Week 1: Wed–Fri; Week 2: Tue, Sat, Sun). Shifts currently fall between 11 am and 8 pm, with frequent extra ad hoc hours available during seasonal peaks and on‑site events. This is ideal for those seeking a steady routine with the flexibility to work more during our busiest periods.

Key Responsibilities
  • Engage proactively with customers, fostering a welcoming environment by addressing their inquiries, offering thorough product knowledge, and providing tailored advice and recommendations whenever possible.
  • Efficiently process sales transactions using the EPOS system, with meticulous attention to detail in handling credit and debit card transactions.
  • Conduct regular stock replenishment in accordance with visual merchandising guidelines, ensuring accurate coding and pricing.

Please note that this role entails regular weekend shifts, as well as rostered and variable weekday shifts with flexible hours.

Skills & Experience
  • Previous experience in providing a high level of customer service in direct interactions, ideally within a sales setting.
  • Ability to identify and leverage sales opportunities to enhance revenue generation.
  • Clear and effective communication skills tailored to diverse audiences.
  • Strong team player with the capacity to work collaboratively and independently.
  • Aptitude for exercising initiative and problem-solving skills, particularly in challenging scenarios.
