We are currently looking for an Installation & Fabrication Technician to join our Hayward Gallery team on a full time permanent contract. As an Installation & Fabrication Technician, you will participate in the installation, de-installation and maintenance of Hayward Gallery exhibitions and also on other visual arts projects around the Southbank Centre. A large part of the role is the fabrication of exhibition displays as well as working on fabrication aspects of Hayward commissions.
Key Responsibilities:
- Art handling, including packing, unpacking, writing packing notes, installation and de-installation to museum standard.
- Construction/fabrication of various forms of display furniture, bespoke framing and case making to museum standards.
- Maintain exhibitions on view to the public to the highest standards.
- To work alongside freelancers, plus supervising smaller projects during the main turnaround of the galleries.
Skills & Experience:
- Knowledge of art handling best practice and experience of handling a range of artworks in a gallery or similar environment.
- Workshop experience operating a variety of woodworking machinery and hand tools safely and efficiently.
- Ability to interpret technical specifications & drawings and translate into fabrication plans.
- Enjoys working as part of a team, collaborating and supporting colleagues.
- Experience of working within Health & Safety guidelines.
