The school offers a nurturing environment, strong SEND provision, and extensive facilities, including IT and outdoor spaces.

We are seeking a SEN Teaching Assistant for the Seahorses Class, a specialist, communication-rich provision for pupils with Speech, Language and Communication Needs (SLCN) and diagnoses of autism.

Each child has an EHCP and a personalised plan and may require support with personal care as part of their daily routine.

We are looking for someone calm, attuned, and deeply committed to helping children feel safe, regulated and ready to learn.

Experience with autism, SLCN, or complex SEND is valued, along with a relationship-centred approach to practice.

Responsibilities

  • Provide support to pupils with Speech, Language and Communication Needs (SLCN) and autism to enable access to learning and daily activities.
  • Support personal care sensitively and professionally as part of daily routines, in accordance with individual needs and EHCP requirements.
  • Support the use of visual communication systems (e. g., now/next boards, PECs, widget symbols) to aid understanding and participation.
  • Maintain calm, nurturing, and relationship-based approaches to behaviour and classroom management.
  • Follow structured routines while adapting to individual needs and ensuring a safe learning environment.
  • Collaborate with teaching staff and the wider school team to support inclusive education and pupil progress.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Experience supporting pupils with autism, SLCN, or complex SEND.
  • Confidence using visual communication systems (e. g., now/next boards, PECs, widget symbols).
  • A calm, nurturing, and relationship-based approach to behaviour.
  • Ability to follow structured routines while adapting to individual needs.
  • Willingness to support personal care sensitively and professionally.
  • Strong teamwork, reflective practice, and commitment to inclusive education.
  • Additional Information

We provide an excellent induction package for new staff and a team of experienced mentors to support you.

The school is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people, and all staff and volunteers are expected to share this commitment.
