We have an exciting opportunity for a Local Offer Development Officer to join Southampton City Council (SCC) within the SEND Service. This is a term time only position for 15 hours a week.

About The Team

Our SEND Service is committed to improving outcomes for children and young people with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND). We work collaboratively with families, education settings, professionals, and partner organisations to ensure clear, accessible, and meaningful information is available to support children and young people at every stage of their journey. The Local Offer plays a vital role in this work, acting as a single point of contact for information, guidance, and support related to SEND across Southampton.

About The Role

As the Local Offer Development Officer, you will lead on the development, maintenance, and continuous improvement of the Southampton Local Offer website. You will be responsible for ensuring that information about SEND services, provision, and support is current, accurate, accessible, and co-produced with families and children and young people.

Key Responsibilities

  • Leading on the ongoing development of Local Offer content, working with providers and services across the city to ensure information remains relevant and up to date.
  • Co-producing content and design with parents/carers and children and young people with SEND.
  • Acting as the key link with the Southampton City Council Communications Team to develop the website and user experience, ensuring maximum accessibility and use of a range of media.
  • Planning and delivering engagement events for stakeholders, such as parent/carer information sessions and coffee mornings.
  • Producing and distributing regular SEND bulletins to identified stakeholders, highlighting current initiatives and activities.
  • Managing the Local Offer mailbox, responding to enquiries, feedback, and queries from families and professionals.
  • Working collaboratively with the SEND team, education settings, the parent carer forum, and wider partners to ensure the Local Offer reflects local needs and priorities.

About You

We are looking for an enthusiastic and organised individual who is passionate about improving access to information for families and professionals. You will bring:

  • A minimum of Level 2 qualifications in English and Maths.
  • Knowledge and experience of SEND, gained through formal training and/or at least two years’ relevant experience.
  • Local knowledge of services that support children, young people, and families with SEND.
  • Experience of working collaboratively across services and with a wide range of stakeholders, including families, children and young people, and professionals.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present information clearly and accessibly.
  • Strong IT skills and confidence using digital platforms.
  • The ability to manage your own workload, work autonomously, and contribute effectively as part of a team.
  • A creative approach to making information accessible for different audiences.

The salary band for this role is Β£26,402 to Β£28,207. The starting salary is Β£26,402 with annual progression through the salary bands.
