We have an exciting opportunity for a Permanent, Full Time, Licensing Officer to join Southampton City Council (SCC) in the Licensing Team.

About The Team

The Licensing Team carries out a wide variety of statutory licensing functions for both Southampton City Council and, as agents, for Eastleigh Borough Council. The team’s workload is substantial, including, but not limited to, Taxis and Private Hire Vehicles, Licensing Act 2003 and Gambling Act 2005 matters, Charitable Collections, Scrap Metal, Pleasure Boats and Sex Establishments.

About The Role

As a Licensing Officer, you will manage a varied caseload, processing licence applications and ensuring compliance with statutory requirements mainly relating to hackney carriage and private hire vehicles and their drivers as well as Private Hire Operators. You will provide guidance on applications and general enquiries on licensing matters. You must maintain accurate records. You will process payments and reconcile income to appropriate accounts. You will make decisions relating to applications and ensure policies and legislative requirements are met.

About You

  • GCSE Level of education including Grade A-C (or equivalent) in English and Maths.
  • Excellent IT skills able to use MS Office.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Understanding of the statutory legislation relating to Licensing.
  • Ability to challenge inappropriate or unlawful activity.
