We have an exciting opportunity for a Permanent, Full Time, Electrical Technician to join Southampton City Council (SCC) in the Asset Management Team.

About The Team

You will join the Risk & Compliance team at a time of significant change with an ambitious improvement programme underway.

About The Role

  • Provide quality control, technical advice, and onsite monitoring of electrical installations, servicing, and refurbishment works.
  • Monitor contractor performance, escape issues of non‑compliance, and ensure safe working practices are followed across Council properties.
  • Contribute to developing and delivering electrical compliance projects in line with statutory requirements, British Standards, and best practice.
  • Support ongoing compliance programmes by keeping records and databases accurate, up to date, and aligned with legislative changes and Council policy.
  • Ensure all electrical certificates (EICs, EICRs) are accurate, complete, and stored correctly for audit and compliance purposes.

About You

  • Technical knowledge and at least 3 years’ post qualification experience in domestic and commercial electrical systems, including general engineering practices.
  • Contractor supervision and compliance experience, including understanding public‑sector financial regulations and confidence representing Risk & Compliance in meetings.
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to engage confidently with a wide range of stakeholders (tenants, officers, members, contractors).
