Apprenticeships are an exciting way to develop your career in an ambitious city. At Southampton City Council we’re keen to invest in people and apprentices are a valuable part of our workforce and the future of the council.
As an apprentice you’ll be receiving practical and professional training right from the start. Working alongside experienced colleagues and mentors who will supervise your development providing support and guidance throughout your training. You will have regular reviews with your manager, mentor and tutor so you know how you are doing and can gain support with any activities to help you progress.
Given our investment in your learning and progression, the hope is that on completion of your apprenticeship and vacancy permitting, we would be able to offer you a permanent role – however this will be subject to certain criteria and there is no guarantee.
An apprenticeship is a real job, with real responsibilities and along with a competitive salary, an apprenticeship will provide you with many benefits including;
- A career path so you can progress to the next level
- On and off the job training
- The achievement of a nationally recognised qualification and the ability to earn while you learn in your chosen career path
- Access to the Hampshire Local Government Pension Scheme with Employer pension contributions
- Interest free travel loans and discounts.

We are recruiting for confident and self-motivated individuals to join our Housing Operations team. Alongside your job you’ll also be studying for a Business Admin Level 3 Apprenticeship qualification. The apprenticeship is work-based which means it’s made up of self-led learning and assignments with the Assessor visiting the learner in the workplace for reviews, observations and to set work.
This post would be ideal for someone who is wanting to start a career, progress their career, or reskill, and it would be advantageous if candidates had some basic experience/understanding of administrative work, although this is not essential. A good standard of Maths and English is required (GCSE 4 / C or above), or the ability to gain a Level 2 Functional Skills qualification will be required as part of your learning.
